Paint the Town
Our 4th Annual Paint the Town Paint Out will, once again be in conjunction to the Monroeville Literary Festival (MLF) and will be part of their schedule of events. This year, we would like to add an educational component for students from Monroeville Elementary School so we would like for each participant to commit to painting on the “square” for at least one of the scheduled times Friday & Saturday. This will give students the opportunity to walk by with their teacher and see artist in action. Additionally, it will give festival goers the opportunity to see you work while boosting exposure for the Wet Paint Sale. Our plan is to have a display space for wet paintings during the entire MLF so paintings can be dropped off as they are complete - details are still being worked out as to where this space will be. We will be looking into sponsors for this event and will let you know if there will be “competition elements” & “purchase prize.”

9AM – 5PM- Early Bird Painters Welcome!
5:30PM – 7:00PM Meet the Artist Party with Refreshments -- Artists check in & pick up packets.
Location – 28 East Claiborne Street (formerly Mockingbird Kids) – Artists SAMPLES on display!

9 AM - Noon - Artists Paint selected sites downtown.(student tours)
1 PM - 5 PM– Artists Paint selected sites downtown.
Saturday, March 2, 2024
8:00 -8:45 AM - 28 East Claiborne Street (formerly Mockingbird Kids) - Artists pick up "Quick Draw" canvases(or register their personal canvas) and head to their selected site on the square. The quick draw is open to professional artists ($20.00) who want to try plein air plus we will have a amateur division for amateur artists($10.00)! (bring your own easel and pastels, paints, markers, crayons, pencils, etc. - we will supply your canvas) Quick Draw Application
BOUNDARIES: The geographic boundaries of the Quick Draw Competition are the downtown square plus:
West Boundary: West Claiborne Street (at Johnson Ave)
East Boundary: East Claiborne Street & Pineville Road (ending at Cherry Street)
North Boundary: North Mt Pleasant Ave (at the Presbyterian Church)
South Boundary: South Mt Pleasant Ave & South Alabama Ave. (Ending at Trustmark Bank)
9AM - 11AM - Quick Draw Competition - the competition starts when the bullhorn sounds and ends 2 hours later. Completed artwork must be turned in BEFORE the 2 hour deadline!
Noon – 3:00 PM – Paint the Town Wet Paint Sale - 28 East Claiborne Street (formerly Mockingbird Kids) - space will be limited so we are asking for no more than 4 submissions per artist (all Monroe County subjects) and half must be “wet”. We will also have a "Quick Draw Sale". Prizes will be awarded between 2PM & 2:30PM and all artwork must remain until the end of the show.
